www.familyhandyman.com/project/fix-cord-chewed-by-pet"Discovering your family pet chewed through a power cord to an appliance or lamp can be shocking in more ways than one. Here are two easy fixes for a chewed cord...." My notes: Has any of your pets chewed on cords? Hopefully when not plugged in! I play with our cats strings so sometimes they want to attack the cords. Luckily they are older so don't do it as often anymore.

None of ours chewed any cords. There is a spray out there that is bitter tasting.

None of ours chewed any cords. There is a spray out there that is bitter tasting. Hot peppers or pepper sauce will sometimes work as well. One of the really strong ones.
And yeah, I've had to do that exact repair. And as was noted, I used electrical tape instead of heat shrink. Works fine provided you use enough layers...I'd recommend more than one.

No chewed cords but I have run over the cord for my vacuum cleaner and a bit of the coating wore off. I just used electricians tape to tape up that little bit.

I haven't personally had a pet chew an electrical cord. However, if this did happen pet or pest, the best way to fix it would be to cut the broken part of, stripe both ends until you can see 3-4 wires and then strip the wiring cover and twist them together. Finally put wiring tape around it to complete the connection. There are some tutorials on YouTube and it doesn't require much time or effort after some practise.
